Cyprus 22-29.03.2026

The trip to Cyprus didn't go very well. Half of the passengers canceled their trip due to the situation in the Middle East, but we still went. We were expecting a half-empty plane, and when there - almost full. Apparently not everyone was scared. We arrive in Pafos around 9 a.m. The weather forecast for our entire week was pretty bad, rain almost every day, which is not appropriate for the sunniest island in the Mediterranean (they say that Cyprus has 340 sunny days a year). Our plan was three days in the mountains, four days down by the sea. Accordingly, we organized accommodation, three nights in a hotel on Mount Troodos, four nights in apartments in Pafos. But on the first day, we are forced to change our plans. The weather forecast says it's raining on Troodos and it's cold. Nothing, we go on one of the “sea” trails near Pafos, to Aphrodite’s rock. In Cyprus, half of it bears Aphrodite's name. The weather served us quite well, plenty of sunshine and only a few drops of rain. There was even a bath. We're going back to the parking lot and heading for Troodos. The cold front that engulfed a large part of Europe did not pass by Cyprus either, so at our hotel we came across, believe it or not, snow. It is a hotel at 1700m, but it is still Cyprus and the end of March. The weather forecast on Troodos is still bad, there is snow and/or slush on the tracks, so we are forced to continue to improvise. We go to the opposite end of the island, two hours' drive, but the forecast says - sunny. And so it was, a lot of sunshine and a little cloudy. The trail is beautiful, so despite the long run, we will most likely put it in the program. The next day, the same story again, we start from Troodos in the rain that stops as soon as we get close to the coast. Along the coast we are mostly accompanied by nice weather, while above Troodos the sky is black that can not be blacker. The next morning, the sun set on Troodos. But it's only temporary. The forecast says it's raining again from 11 o'clock. It doesn't mean much to us, we're changing places today anyway. We go to Paphos, but before that we go to the “invented” attraction, the stranded ship Edro III, and then the local archaeological attraction Tombs of the Kings. At Lidl we buy things for the next few days, since we are now housed in apartments. Dinner in Pafos is not a problem, it's all a lot of good restaurants we've already met on our last visit. The next morning we are greeted sunny, with a few clouds and some wind. Today we have a trail through the Avakas canyon. I look closely at the route chosen by Google, last time it dragged us onto an endless gravel road. This time he chose the ‘normal’, correct path. There are three parking lots for the canyon; to the first leads Google, while to the other two that are closer to the beginning of the track need a little more macadam ride. We went on a gravel road, but we couldn't get to the parking lot, the last part was in a rather bad condition. No connections, we've only got a few minutes to walk. But it turned out that the problem was to get to the very beginning of the track. The swollen stream creates problems, but we manage to cross it, so we go down the bypass road to the parking lot, i.e. the beginning of the trail. Already this creek that we crossed had hinted that going through the canyon might not be possible, or at least not under some normal conditions. This was confirmed by the people returning from the direction of the canyon. At first it's just mud, and later it's water. So, none of the canyons. Too bad, canyons are always attractive, so is this one, but there is no point in forcing it. We continue to improvise, the day is beautiful and we decide to go to the beach.  Coral bay is the most famous beach near Pafos, so let's go there. A little swimming, a little walk by the sea, a drink and a day goes by. We're having a standard dinner at Paphos. Our apartments are a 15-20 minute walk from the part of town called Kato Pafos where most of the restaurants and cafes are located. For the next day, we have another trail, a combination of two trails. The first track was named after Adonis, and the second, guess by Aphrodite. The place where the trails start is called Baths of Aphrodite. There, according to legend, a beautiful Aphrodite came to bathe, and also a beautiful young man Adonis was there hunting and accidentally encountered her. Love was born, and so on. On our way back to Pafos we stopped for another swim in Coral bay. Initially, the intention was another beach, Blue lagoon, but the way to it is extremely bad macadam, so we gave up this idea. On the last day, we did not need any more snowmobiles or the like, since all the trails were ‘cracked’, although we did not manage to do a lot of them for objective reasons. Instead, we visited two small villages on the slopes of Troodos, and the male part of the team was also on tasting in one of the many wineries. Nice experience for the end of the trip. In the morning we returned the car to rent a car, boarded the plane and something after noon we were already in cold Zagreb.
