Triglav (2864m) is the highest peak of Slovenia and the Julian Alps in general, and is a great challenge for many hikers, not only Croatian and Slovenian. There is no easy path to the top, all approaches are characterised as ‘zelo zahtevne poti’ (meaning that all are ‘Via Ferrata’), i.e. there is no possibility of reaching the top without cables and wedges. Most hikers organize a trip to Triglav as a two-day trip, because it is so much more comfortable and easier and there is much more time to enjoy the Alpine highlands (of course, there are those who do it in the summer months in one day). The summer season of climbing Triglav lasts only a few months, so it is always crowded at that time. The most common starting points for the final climb are the mountain huts Kredarica and Planika. Although they are among Slovenia's largest mountain huts, sleeping places are almost always filled, especially on weekends.

itinerary

FIRST DAY:

We leave Zagreb at 8 a.m. Just before 11 o'clock (with one stop) we arrive at the parking lot in Pokljuka (1300m). The first part of the trail goes through the forest, then goes out to the mountain (pasture) Konjščica, to continue through low vegetation and later sipar (serpentine, not too steep) to Studorski prevala (1900m). From there we continue towards Vodnik's home (1815m) where the trail goes more or less straight, without any more pronounced ups and downs. We're taking a long break here. After Vodnik's home, the vegetation slowly disappears and soon we enter the stone world, which will accompany us all the way to Triglav and back. From Pokljuka to the mountain lodge Planika it takes about 5 hours to walk, so there is no rush, we can do a lot of breaks and enjoy the alpine landscape. Upon arrival to Planika, accommodation in the home, dinner, socializing, going to sleep.

Day 2:

Getting up and having breakfast. Breakfast is served from 6 o'clock, so by 7 o'clock everything should be done. At 7:15 at the latest we head towards Triglav via Triglavska škrbina. We're taking a short break on the scissor. They should be at the top about 9:00. We stay for 30-45 minutes (if the weather permits), and take another route (via Mali Triglav) back to Planika. At home we take a short break and continue towards Vodnik's home. Here again we take a break (30-40 minutes) and continue towards the plateau "On the lake" which we need a little more than an hour and a half walk to. Here we take another break and continue towards the parking lot on Rudni polje (approximately an hour and a half walk). Finally, we go to lunch at the restaurant in Pokljuka. Return to Zagreb is scheduled in the evening.

NOTE: Nights and mornings at these heights can be very cold, just a few degrees above zero, even in the middle of summer, so you should also bring some winter clothes, just in case.
