Caravans, with their 120 km, are one of the longest mountain ranges in Europe. It stretches along the Austrian-Slovenian border in an east-west direction. The northern (Austrian) side is mostly steep and inaccessible, while the southern (Slovenian) side is much milder, tame and more accessible. In the north they are bounded by the river Drava, and in the south by the Sava, which also separates them from the Julian Alps. In its eastern part it borders the Kamnik-Savinj Alps and Pohorje. Geographically and geologically divided into eastern (lower) and western (more).
The table or the Great Table (Hochstuhl), is the highest peak of the Karavanki (2236m). The table is significant for Slovenian mountaineering, because in 1892 the idea of establishing a Slovenian mountaineering association was born on it, which was founded a year later.
Golica, with its 1835m, is the highest peak of the eponymous ridge in the western part of Karavanka. It is located above Jesenice, on the border between Slovenia and Austria. The entire ridge of Golice above 1500 m is bare (grassland - without forest vegetation), after which the mountain got its name.
itinerary
FIRST DAY
We depart from Zagreb at 10:00 a.m. With one stop, we arrive at Valvasor's home at about 1 p.m. We're taking things and heading to the table. Soon we come across a crossroads. The left, steeper trail is called the Žirovniška pot. The right, a little longer and milder is called the Zabreška pot. As a rule, when doing a day trip to the Table, the mountain goes steeper, and descends along a milder path. But since this is not a day trip, we will take a gentler path. It takes about three hours to walk to Prešernova Brake. Days are the longest possible, so there is no rush, and there is time for breaks. From the brake to the top is a 15-minute walk. After coming down from the top, we have dinner, socializing and going to sleep.
The Second Day
Getting up and having breakfast. Today we are waiting for the highlight of the excursions, the reef road from Stol to Golica. Five hours of real pleasure, almost a light walk, mostly a gentle downhill. We have plenty of time to enjoy and rest along the way. At these heights there is no forest, so care should be taken to protect from the sun. However, nothing blocks our gaze all the way, mostly on the Slovenian side, on Bled, Sava Dolinka and the Julian Alps. On Golica we take the last break, and after that we descend to Koča on Golica, for dinner and sleep.
The Third Day
Getting up and having breakfast. Unlike yesterday, today is a forest day. We descend to the Doma v Pristavi which we reach in about 2 hours. Here we take a longer break, after which we head towards Valvasor's home, which we need 2.5-3 hours walk from something not too demanding ascent. On the finish line we take a lunch break, and after a little rest we head to Zagreb, where we arrive in the early evening.
