Soče Valley - Soška pot
Soče Valley - Soška pot
The Soča River springs in the valley of Trenta, flows through Slovenia and Italy, and flows into the Gulf of Trieste into the Adriatic Sea. It is known for its turquoise color along its entire course, and the color owes to the stones in it. Because of the color, it is also called the emerald river. The Soče Valley is rich in natural and cultural-historical sights.
The most famous is certainly the Soška pot, which connects the hidden parts of the Soča river and the Trenta valley. It is 20 km long and is part of the Alpe Adria trail, an attractive, 640 km long hiking route through Austria, Italy and Slovenia. For many, it's the most beautiful part of the whole trip.
The best time to go to the Soča Valley is late spring, when the snow melts and there is plenty of precipitation, the water level is high, and the river is fast and attractive.

itinerary
We depart from Zagreb at 6:00 a.m. With one stop, we reach Kranjska Gora around 9:30. Here we stop at Lake Jasna, postcards of Kranjska Gora. After that, we cross Vršič along the serpentine road and descend (again serpentine) into the Soča valley. Before the soška go, we will go to the Soča spring. There is a mountain lodge, if someone needs something. More coffee, a toilet... The source is 15 min walk (unless there is a tourist bus in front). The Soška pot begins a few hundred meters from the mountain lodge. The trail is initially far from the river, but once it descends to it, it goes along most of the way. Occasionally he moves away a little, climbs up a little, and then descends again, several times crossing from one coast to the other over hanging bridges. After 4-5 hours (depending on the amount of rest and photography), the serfje Jelinčič is reached. Here we can refresh ourselves and rest a little longer, as we have a little more than an hour on our feet, but also the most attractive part of Soča – the Great Basin. In the end, we will have dinner somewhere else, etc. The return to Zagreb is scheduled in the late evening.
