Triglav 08-09.08.2026.
Triglav (2864m) is the highest peak of Slovenia and the Julian Alps in general, and is a great challenge for many hikers, not only Croatian and Slovenian. There is no easy path to the top, all approaches are characterised as ‘zelo zahtevne poti’ (meaning that all are ‘Via Ferrata’), i.e. there is no possibility of reaching the top without cables and wedges. Most hikers organize a trip to Triglav as a two-day trip, because it is so much more comfortable and easier and there is much more time to enjoy the Alpine highlands (of course, there are those who do it in the summer months in one day). The summer season of climbing Triglav lasts only a few months, so it is always crowded at that time. The most common starting points for the final climb are the mountain huts Kredarica and Planika. Although they are among Slovenia's largest mountain huts, sleeping places are almost always filled, especially on weekends. The most commonly used approach is the one over Mali Triglav, and there is always a big crowd on it, because there are connecting trails from Kredarica and Planika. For this reason, we are not going that way, but through the Triglavska škrbina. We also come down through Triglavska škrbina, but this time towards the carriage on Dolič, so that in both cases we avoid the crowds, waiting and passing on the track between Triglav and Mali Triglav.

itinerary
FIRST DAY:
We leave Zagreb at 8 a.m. Just before 11 o'clock (with one stop) we arrive at the parking lot in Pokljuka (1300m). The first part of the trail goes through the forest, then goes out to the mountain (pasture) Konjščica, to continue through low vegetation and later sipar (serpentine, not too steep) to Studorski prevala (1900m). From there we continue towards Vodnik's home (1815m) where the trail goes more or less straight, without any more pronounced ups and downs. We're taking a long break here. After Vodnik's home, the vegetation slowly disappears and soon we enter the stone world, which will accompany us all the way to Triglav and back to Koča on Dolič. From Pokljuka to the mountain lodge Planika it takes about 5 hours to walk, so there is no rush, we can do a lot of breaks and enjoy the alpine landscape. Upon arrival to Planika, accommodation in the home, dinner, socializing, going to sleep.
Day 2:
The next day will be a little harder. We get up about 6 am, by 7 should make coffee, breakfast, etc. At 7:30 am there is a movement. We should be at Triglav in two hours at the most. On the way we will make a short break (on Škrbina). We stay at the top for an hour, if the weather permits, after which we head down, towards Koča on Dolič. The plan is to leave Dolič for Pokljuka at about 1:30 p.m. We'll make a longer break (lunch) at Vodnik's home again. By 7:30 p.m., we should be able to get to the vehicle without any problems or haste. Return to Zagreb is expected in the evening.
Nights and mornings at these heights can be very cold, just a few degrees above zero, even in the middle of summer, so you should also bring some winter clothes, just in case.
