Vlasic is a mountain in central Bosnia, in the municipality of Travnik. According to some sources, the mountain was named after nomadic Vlachs who supposedly once inhabited its area. The Vlašić plateau begins at the top of the Ljuta greda, at a height of 1,300 m, and is known for its famous tradition of making Vlašić cheese. To the south, towards the Vlaška gomila and the highest peak of Paljenak (1933m), there is a huge lawn with juicy meadows where numerous herds of sheep graze from early spring to late autumn, so that is why the center of production of Vlašić cheese is precisely in this place.

Babanovac is a tourist resort at the height of 1260m, where over time a new Bosnian winter tourism center has established itself, which is also visited by foreign guests, thanks to the opening of ski slopes and new hotels.

Devečani on Vlašić represent one of the most beautiful mountain destinations in Bosnia and Herzegovina. This picturesque part of Vlasic abounds in untouched nature, lush forests and beautiful pastures that provide spectacular views of the surrounding mountains and valleys.

In addition to natural beauties, the Devencians are known for their rich cultural heritage. Here you can visit the traditional mountain huts, where old Bosnian architecture and lifestyle are preserved. You can also enjoy local gastronomic delicacies, such as homemade cheese, kajmak and fresh bread baked in the traditional way.

itinerary

FIRST DAY

We depart from Zagreb at 7 am and with one or two stops, somewhere after noon we come to the tourist resort at the foot of Vlašić, Babanovac. Here we will be greeted by our host, a welcome drink and, quote: Rich homemade mezza. Bosnia is that. The house has 5 rooms, three double and two quadruple (bunk beds), three bathrooms and two kitchens. After the mezza, brandy and accommodation in the house we go to the lookout Vukovića brdo (they call it Our Lady of Snow), about 2-2.5 hours of easy walk (all together, in both directions). Upon our return, dinner awaits us, and on as anyone pleases, a walk, socializing... and going to sleep.

The Second Day

Getting up and having breakfast. Today we have a 15 km long road and several peaks, including Paljenik (1933m), the highest peak on Mount Vlašić. Locals call it Relay, because of the telecommunications tower on top. Together with the holidays, we will need 6-7 hours of walk to return to Babanovac. After the rest and shower followed by dinner, and further as anyone wants.

The Third Day

Getting up and having breakfast. Today we have a 20-mile walk. We do not go to the peaks, but we still come to 1800m, at the location of Devečani, where we make the first break. To this point we mostly climb , and after that we descend to the village of Guča Gora where we will be waiting for transportation. There is also a Franciscan monastery and a museum in the village. There will also be a longer break, so whoever wishes can visit the museum and monastery. After returning to the accommodation, a little rest and shower, then dinner and, according to our host Nikola, a little longer socializing and fun, since the next day we can sleep a little longer.

FOURTH DAY

Getting up (a little later) and breakfast. Today we are waiting for a visit to the nearby tourist resort EKO-FIS Vlašić, or shortened by the FIS park in which, along with many sports and recreational facilities, there is a mini zoo (bears and deer). It will be an easy tourist walk (2-3 hours ) for the end of our visit to Mount Vlašić. We return to the accommodation, take things, say goodbye to Nikola and head towards the house. We'll see how we handle lunch, whether it's there or somewhere along the way. Return to Zagreb is scheduled in the evening.
